SUP Paddles

You cant use your SUP board for much without a paddle. In principle, you can paddle yourself with a bamboo stick. Finding the right paddle can be difficult, but it is actually very important to choose the right one if you want to get the most out of your equipment. Below we will give you an insight into the world of paddles for SUPs.

A SUP paddle consists of 3 parts - the handle, the shaft and the blade itself. The handles may be designed in slightly different ways, but are very individual.

The shaft is the rod between the handle and the blade. The shaft can be made of aluminum or carbon / fiberglass. Aluminum is very stiff and durable, but heavier than carbon. Carbon and fiberglass are more flexible and can be designed with different stiffnesses. The flexibility of a carbon shaft gives your roofs an elastic potential that is economical for your energy consumption. The shaft can be one-piece or 2-3 split. This has an impact on how easy it is to transport. The 2-3 split SUP paddles can also be adjusted in height to fit several. However, it becomes more fragile and flexible at disadvantageous points. You can learn more about the height of your paddle on each product.

The blade is the plate that touches the water and pushes you forward. Here, the shape of the blade has a bearing on how the water is pushed away. If the surface pushing the water is designed to be a little bit pointed, the blade cuts through the water faster and you may have more roofs (better acceleration). The width of the blade also matters as it determines how much water you need to displace to get ahead. A narrow blade has better acceleration and you can take more roofs with high power. A wide blade is good for maintaining a high speed.
You need to choose the width of the blade based on your weight and strength. If you weigh a little and have less strength, you should choose a narrow one, while a heavier and stronger person can handle a wide blade.
