What are trucks?

What trucks to choose for my longboard? Trucks means a lot for the management of your longboard. When buying trucks be aware of whether they fit your deck or not. Longboard trucks are usually wider than skateboard trucks, as they must be able to match the wider longboard deck. Where the wheels sit and what determines how wide the truck is, the hanger is. Normally, the hanging is between 150 mm to 180 mm, but they can be down to 100 mm and up to 210 mm. As a rule, the wider the hanger is, the more stable the longboard will be, but on the other hand it will have a worse turning radius. Something else that matters to how trucks should work are bushings that are inside your trucks.

Your trucks can also get other features if their base plate is placed differently. Base plate is where your trucks are mounted and determines how the angle is relative to the board and asphalt. When choosing your trucks, its important that they are wide enough, otherwise the wheels will hit the side of the deck, called "wheelbite". To avoid wheelbite, you can add risers that lift your longboard slightly up between trucks and deck. However, your trucks should not be too wide, otherwise there is a chance that you will put your feet on the wheels as you drive. On your truck is a kingpin where your bushings are sitting. You can turn this king pin so you can control how much the longboard should turn. The harder you tighten, the hard it will turn.

Be aware that your trucks are wide enough so that they do not hit the edge of the deck but that they are not too wide so you do not put your feet on the wheels while driving.

Guide to hanger size:

90mm – 110mm: for Boards with a length of 65 – 80cm
110mm – 150mm: for Boards with a length of 80 – 100cm
Bigger than 150mm: for Boards longer than 100cm
