Wheels for Scooters

Wheels for pro scooters are made of urethane and are usually 100 mm or 110 mm. Some wheels have a diameter up to 120 mm or 125 mm, and use special forks designed for the big wheels.

Wheel diameter determines how easily the wheel rolls over unevenness in the asphalt. Large wheels roll more easily over unevenness, while smaller wheels can easily be stopped by a small crack or uneven asphalt. Therefore, big wheels are faster than small wheels, which is perfect if you ride your scooter to school or just like to take a stroll in the evening when the weather permits. The smaller wheels, like boards, are more vulnerable to uneven asphalt and roll more slowly, but are more agile. This is because they weigh less which makes it easier to change direction when doing 180, barspin, tailwhip, or grinds.

The wheel rim is fitted with a tire of urethane which has a hardness that is measured on the durameter scale, eg. 88a. Hardness also has an impact on how easily it drives over unevenness and how good it is on the road. A soft wheel runs smoothly and has a good grip on the road, while a hard wheel is more sensitive to roughness and will have a smaller grip on the road.

The core material in the wheel can be plastic (nylon) or aluminum, and be designed as solid or spoked. The core material is of major importance for durability as an aluminum wheel is very powerful and has a longer life if you do many stunt. Plastic wheels are good enough for children or young people who do not push the equipment to the edge. Solid or cut-out core? This is mostly a design and style preference, but if you go down into the details, solid core wheels are the strongest and spoked wheels the lightest.
