Scooter Clamps

Scooter Clamps / Standard vs. Oversized

See Clamps

Clamps for stunt scooters comes in two versions, which are referred to as Standard and Oversized due to their diameter. Standard clamps will fit standard scooter bars with an outside diameter of 32 mm. They will not fit any aluminum bars.

Oversized clamps will fit oversized (HIC) scooter bars with an outside diameter of 35 mm. They will also fit aluminum scooter bars with the same outside diameter.

Some oversized scooter clamps come with a shim which can be used to fit a standard bar. Otherwise, they are meant to be used for oversized bars.

Scooter Clamps / Shims

Shims are often used for SCS clamps to make them compatible with standard and oversized bars. If you use the shim, it will be compatible with a standard bar. If you do not use the shim the SCS clamp it will be compatible with oversized bars. This works especially well with SCS compression as the downtube, in this case, will not have to be pushed down on it (as with the HIC and IHC compression) or have a star nut mounted (as with the ICS compression).

Scooter Clamps / Height of the Clamp

See parts

Apart from the inside diameter on the clamp, they come in different heights. The height of the clamp is extremely important, because the height must go with the size of the slit in the downtube. As previously mentioned, the function of the clamp is to stabilize the downtube around the fork. If the slit is shorter than the height of the clamp, the top of the clamp will press against the bar and that can cause the clamp to loosen time and again.
